Biography:
Gokhan Cakir is a senior engineer at System Operations Engineering at Duke Energy, supporting Duke Energy Progress System Operations by providing system reliability analysis, contingency analysis of the grid, grid steady state and dynamic stability by analyzing power flow, load data, and systems conditions to make proactive adjustments that maintain reliability across the transmission grid.
Prior to joining Duke Energy, Gokhan completed his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at North Carolina State University, during his Ph.D. program he served as a research assistant involved in several projects, and teaching assistant of power systems based graduate courses. His research interests include developing methods to improve state estimation/power flow performance of real time monitoring of power systems, and data analytics applications for power systems.
Gokhan earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the Gazi University in 2008, Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Tennessee Tech University in 2013, and Doctor of Philosophy degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering from North Carolina State University in 2024.
